Sustainable Habits
for Daily Life (Pt. 1)

Incorporating sustainable practices into your lifestyle may seem overwhelming at first, but don't worry! There are simple solutions that can set you on the path towards sustainability. With companies prioritizing profit over sustainability, it's easy to overlook how much our daily habits impact the environment. From single-use plastic items like water bottles, food packaging, household cleaners, clothing, and technology gadgets, our carbon footprint can quickly add up. But with time and effort, we can all adopt more sustainable practices and improve our habits. To get started, try making a mental note of two unsustainable aspects of a product before making a purchase. Small steps like these can make a big difference in the long run!

Packaging

Consider the packaging of the product and whether it is necessary or excessive. Plastic packaging, in particular, is often not biodegradable and can contribute to pollution and waste. Single use plastic is prominent at every consumer touchpoint: single-use plastic bags, plastic bottle, saran wraps on fruits and vegetables, take-out containers. All of these are made convenient for the consumer, making it even harder to say no to these things. Some things we can do:

1.  Bring your own shopping bag

2. Bring your own bottle

3. Bring your own take out containers

Environmental Impact

When making purchasing decisions, it's important to consider the environmental impact of the product beyond just its immediate use. This includes evaluating the materials used to make it, the energy required to produce it, and the emissions produced during transportation. Choosing products that are made from sustainably sourced materials like bamboo or recycled plastic, produced using renewable energy sources like wind or solar power, and have a low carbon footprint can help to reduce your overall environmental impact. For instance, buying organic cotton clothing that's free from harmful chemicals, or opting for a reusable water bottle instead of single-use plastic bottles, can also make a big difference. By being mindful of the environmental impact of the products we consume, we can all do our part to protect the planet

Power of the Consumer

Imagine the impact of 7.9 billion people sharing our planet - we have the power to make a difference. Although some companies prioritize profits over environmental sustainability, we can hold them accountable by choosing sustainable products and practices. Our choices send a message that sustainability is not just a trend - it's a way of life. By taking action, we have the power to inspire companies to shift towards sustainable practices and make a positive impact on the planet. So, the next time you make a purchasing decision, remember that your choice can make a difference. Are you contributing to the problem or the solution?
